My 2012 Devotional

Earlier in the week I asked for people to share on my facebook what Devotional book they would use for 2012. Below are some of the devotionals the ladies listed:

  1. Sparkling Gems From the Greek
  2. My Utmost for His Highest (Oswald Chambers)
  3. Streams in the Desert (the original)
  4. Days of Heaven on Earth (A.B. Simpson)
  5. Guidepost devotion
  6. Inspirational Reader (Max Lucado)
  7. Choosing Joy: A 52-Week Devotional on Discovering True Happiness (Angela Thomas)
  8. Jesus Calling (Sarah Young)

Have you read any of these?

For many years I've used Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest, Charles Spurgeon's Morning and Evening. I also enjoyed Smith Smigglesworth's devotions about the Holy Spirit. In 2010 I used Hearing God and Confident Woman by Joyce Meyer and since 2009 I've used Jesus Calling by Sarah Young and that has walked with me through some rough moments.

As I stood in Barnes and Noble two days ago with my College Baby Girl, I prayed for God to lead me to the devotional He wanted me to use with my Bible this year. He led me to Love Out Loud by Joyce Meyer. I'm excited about this because the page I opened to spoke about how the embracing of God's love effects how we see ourselves beyond being saved (Christian), we need to really know and believe His love for us on a personal level.   Well, that's a message not only in my book: You Are Beautiful in God's Eyes but it's also what I had to grow in the grace and knowledge of over the years.

Love is the theme of the devotional--God's love for us, and loving God, ourselves and others. I believe it is a subject that we all would benefit receiving a deeper level of revelation. I'm looking forward to using this during my personal time with God and His Word.

I pray that we all spend even more time in God's Holy Word, in prayer and in obedience our King Jesus whom we just celebrated at Christmas. May our thoughts, words, emotions and behavior be rooted in the love of Christ throughout this coming year unto the glory of our Heavenly Father.

How about you? If you use a devotional book which one have you selected for 2012 and why? Have a blessed and favored year!! You have my love an prayers.

Lingering In HIS Presence, Lisa

Great selection! I'm going to be using Disciplines of the Inner Life, by Bob Benson - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0967772508. I started it last year, but with reading through the Bible in a year, it was too much. This year, it will be my quiet time companion and I am so looking forward to it!

By His Grace,

Hi Deb, that's wonderful! I think I'm going to love it too! We'll have to tap in and share with each other from time to time what we're gleaning from the devotional. You have a blessed New Year!!!

Lisa, that sounds awesome! I've not heard of that devotional. Let me know how you like it as you go through it.

I pray a wonderful New Year for you with many blessings in the Lord!

How like you to be intentional about the devotionals you will be using in 2012. I am familiar with many of the ones you mentioned. Streams in the Desert has been one that has helped me through the recent storms of my life. The Utmost for His Highest is one I keep returning to. This past year I've been using Sara Young's Jesus Calling and have loved it.

I purchased "From the Trash Pile to the Treasure Chest: Creating a Godly Legacy" after reading about it on Elisa's site More to Be. I'm looking forward to this as I want to leave a godly legacy for my nieces and nephews and the other younger ones in my life.

You have been such a beam of sunshine for me these last few years Lisa. How thankful I am that the Lord brought you into my life. I know we will be forever friends.

Love you,
Debbie

I'm rather schizophrenic about devotionals. I've got a stack of them so I don't follow any one routinely. Mostly I pick & choose. Then again, I often prefer reading Psalms & Proverbs as a devotional.

No matter what vehicle you select, the simple, humble act of being still before the Lord is a sure way to grow.

Blessings for 2012, dear friend. I love you & pray it's a year beyond compare.

I'm not very good at the daily devotional thing but I have used Streams in the Desert after receiving at as gift. I have not selected a specific devotional for the new year. I plan to use a read through the Bible in chronological order as my daily time.

Hi Lisa,

I have four devotional books. I continue to read them over and over. The one that has had the most profound effect has been Oswald Chambers "My Utmost For His Highest." It's about my 3rd year reading it, and I write notes in it, so it's interesting as I go back to read, and see where my heart was at that time, by the notes I wrote on each page.

Other than the Bible, I believe the Lord is using this devotional to help rid me of THE "Me, Myself & I" syndrome that keeps getting in the way of total surrender. Also, I think this devotional encourages one to read their Bible, and desire to know God more and more.

God bless you friend,
Hugs......
Michele

I'm terrible with daily devotionals. I usually end up reading them like I would a novel. One that I keep going back to though, has been My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers.
