REPOST FROM 2010: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Dr. Alveda King

First, thanks to everyone who left such beautiful and warm comments on my "new blog name and design post" below. You blessed my soul. I've been out of sorts for 8 days with a bad stomach virus so please forgive my lack of blogging or visits. Getting back in the swing slowly. For those who knew about this on my FB thanks for praying for me! Wanted to share a message I wrote about Dr. King in 2010 on this the acknowledgment of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day. I tweaked it a bit and I pray it blesses you.

Remembering and praying....

Matthew 7:12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Remembering the humility, honor and love of Christ and people that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. embraced and lived fully.

This was a man who believed we as a people should treat one another the way we desired to be treated. I am grateful that I was raised with the knowledge of Dr. King who was assassinated two years after my birth. In my upbringing things were NOT defined as black people and white people in my personal life. We were PEOPLE. In school I would hear people call one another ugly names and there was definitely separation and hostilities carried mainly from what they had been taught. I am grateful that I was colorless in my thinking. Dr. King stood for us to all be equal because we are made by the same Hand of GOD. We are to be judged by the content of our character not by the color of our skin. We've come a long way since Dr. King. Yes, sadly racism still exist to some degree and not subject to just one race of people however as Christians we are defined by our connection TO CHRIST not by the color of our skin. We are ALL one who believes in HIM. I have brothers and sisters in Christ of different races and I love it because that represents our LORD.

Dr. King was a man of humility never lifting himself up above others and never allowing anyone else to glory at his feet. We need more leaders like that today that do not esteem themselves over GOD or allow anyone else to. Dr. King's sole mission was to glorify GOD, help all people to live equally and never to glorify himself. His mission, I believe, was completed although he was taken from us too soon by the act of someone who had a hardened heart.

As I think today about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and what he meant to the generations of my family on a personal level as well as to so many others, I can't help but be grateful for the recent opportunity I was blessed with to meet and spend time with his loving and incredible niece, Dr. Alveda King, daughter of Rev. A.D. and Naomi King. Rev. A.D. King is the brother to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Alveda King is a caring and powerful voice for the voiceless as she continues to stand for the lives of the unborn. Those of you who know me well and who have visited my pro-life blog know my testimony and that I too stand for LIFE so you can imagine that it was an honor to meet Dr. Alveda King who has been a long time warrior for the Kingdom of GOD on earth especially with regards to affirming LIFE.

I posted a message and photos from the 2010 meeting with Dr. Alveda King, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's niece, on my pro-life blog HERE so please pop in when you have a chance. In honor of LIFE and the message of peace and affirming life, please stand with me and pray with me that the entire Government and Nation will turn their lives fully toward GOD in their private and public lives for the WORD of the LORD says Psalm 33:11 "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance."

Thanks for stopping in and for praying with me. May the peace of God rest on you and all whom you love in Jesus Name! Amen!

Because I am His, Lisa Shaw

A man worthy of applause, though I dare say he'd have blushed. What a beautiful, humble, powerful man of God. And you're right: we need more men like him leading this country, this world!

Such a wonderful tribute to a man who made such a difference in our world. It makes no difference the color of our skin. We are made in the image of God. As the song says, we all are equal at the foot of the cross.

I'll check out the other blog too. How wonderful that you got to spend time with Alveda King. What an honor!

Love you Lisa,
Debbie

Oh, wow, Lisa. What can I say. My heart and eyes have been full listening to these speeches again today and seeing what's happening now. But our God is able to do a work in this dear country of ours and He will in His own time and His own way.

I too love Dr. Martin Luther King.
In my neck of the woods, I still hear a LOT of ignorant trash talk. And it always breaks my heart.

WE DO need more men like Martin Luther King leading this country.
What a wonderful tribute you wrote for him Lisa.

Amen Mari! I was 2 when it happened and the reaction of my family and church-family was so potent that I reacted as well. I knew of him through my Grandma's photos of him and overhearing adult conversations about him from that young age. It was a very sad time...

I then, grew up learning of him and seeing his influence in my life...

This is such a wonderful tribute to a godly man,Lisa, a man who taught us so much about who we are as a people, created in God's image, brothers and sisters in Christ. We DO need more leaders like him today! Thank you for sharing this today, dear Sister - I hope you feel better soon!
